The linked mailing list message does also mention similar issues with Grep, Diffutils, and Coreutils, though Coreutils 8.24 and Grep 2.22 do work fine, so (after all package versions have been updated) that only leaves M4 and Diffutils. I took the working build-aux/update-copyright script from Grep 2.22, did a diff with the same script from M4, and created a patch. The same patch can be applied to both M4 and Diffutils (as well as Coreutils and Grep, at least until they get updated) to fix the testsuite without just disabling the test.

echo 'exit 0' > gnulib-tests/test-update-copyright.sh, disables the test, also works for grep and diffutils
