Aaediwen tested the configure line provided by Chris. I mistakenly only installed from the e2fsprogs libs package and not the e2fsprogs full source package. I redid the install and both Aaediwen and I didn't have any issues with the new configure line.
Both Aaediwen and I were building for ARM targets at the time of testing. The same results are expected for other architectures.

I looked at this ticket after I built e2fsprogs 1.43.1. I will test again regarding the libs we mention on our configure line. Is it now using pkg-config for that?
